STRONG OPPOSITION

U.S. NAVY BILL

BIG FIGHT AHEAD

ADDITIONAL WARSHIPS

(Received January 22, 1.10 p.m.)

WASHINGTON, January 21,

Opponents of the 553,000,000 dollars Naval Bill, which is scheduled to be passed today, have planned the most forcible opposition for when President Roosevelt later asks for additional warships.

One isolationist said: "A terrific fight awaits the President if he gives indications of making effective his proposal for additional ships."

Already there is opposition, to the provisions for two new battleships in today's Bill. While it is planned to induce the House to ask Mr. Roosevelt to call a world naval disarmament conference, there is scant chance of success.
