RAIN OF BOMBS

SIX PLANES FROM MAJORCA

LONDON, January 20. The Barcelona correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" says that the great air raid on the city was carried out by six two-engined bombers from Majorca. An earlier raid was driven back by Government fighters. "Bombs simply rained down, and the whole city was shaken," said a Barcelona business man in a telephone interview. The raid lasted only 90 seconds. The machines flew past at a great height and at terrific speed. They had gone almost before the antiaircraft batteries could come into action. Three machines bombed the lower part of the city, where there is

a serious fire. The backs and fronts of tall apartment-houses were ripped off, revealing bedrooms, parlours, and kitchens.

"The bombing caused craters in the pavements and laid bare gas and water pipes."
