METHODISM

WELLINGTON CENTRAL

CIRCUIT

The Rev. Percy Paris presided over a large attendance of officials of the Wellington Central Methodist Circuit, having associated with him the Revs. J. H. Haslam, O. E. Burton, T. W. Vealie, and -R. Raine.

The chairman extended a welcome to new members taking their seat for the first time.

The circuit membership returns showed little variation from the previous quarter. The financial statement presented by Mr. B. O. Stokes, circuit steward, revealed a credit balance of £11 Us 2d, special thanks being due to the Webb Street and Aro Street Ladies' Guilds for the splendid results obtained from special efforts on behalf of the circuit fund. ;

. Reports on youth work were presented by Miss Lorna Hodder, the Revs. J. H. Haslam and O. E. Burton.

Reference was made to the excellent work being done by the Rev. T. W. Vealie at Aro Street. He was reappointed to take the evening services at Aro Street for a further three months."

Messrs. B. O. Stokes and T. Ml. Pacey were unanimously re-elected circuit stewards, and also representatives to the Methodist conference to take place in Wellington, opening on February 17. Messrs. W. E, Howe and J. L. Garrard were appointed substitute representatives to conference.

In view of the approaching Methodist conference, Mr. B. O. Stokes extended to the Key. Percy Paris, presi-dent-elect, the good wishes and loyal support of the circuit during his term of office, to which he is to be inducted on February 17. In reply, the chairman pleaded for a deepening and quickening of the spiritual life of the Methodist Church in his own circuit, particularly in this bi-centenary year of Methodism, which the Church throughout the world was giving thanks for the life of John Wesley, who did so much for the Church in England in the eighteenth century and founded the Methodist Church, which today extended to every corner of the world.
