IN GOOD FETTLE

ALMA'S FAST SPR(NT

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

PUNEPIN, This Pay.

The Wingatui horses for the Vincent Jockey Club's Meeting this week provided most interest yesterday mornjng. The outside of the course proper, with the trestles in a bit since the Punedin Meeting, provided excellent going. The Wellington candidate Alma, who had Valarth as a companion, registered the best gallop to date o.ver six furlongs, running the distance in lmin 18 2-sseq. The former finished much the better. A. Pidham will probably take her up, but A. E. Pidham will be on hand to ride her after taking part at the Vincent Meeting, where he will ride Counterflight, Slayer, and Valarth. Gipsy Fair was easing up at the end of. five furlongs down the back, run in lmin 7sec. Valmarch went nicely with Spng Boy_ over a similar journey, The half-' brother to Gold Boa should add to his wins this week.

Pink Robe, who has been transferred from G. McKay's stable to H. Anderton's, was going much better than Oliver over six furlongs in lmin 21 2-ssec.

McHeath, who has also made the same change as Pink Robe, was well clear of Noble Maiden after running half a mile in 52sec.

Counterflight ran half a mile in. 54sec.

Gusterina, who was finishing on at the end of a five-furlong task with Nice Kid, ran the distance in lmin Bsec.

Straightdell, Last Link, Philein, Natty, and Slayer were allotted useful work.

There will be about 25 horses from Wingatul making the trip.to Vincent, and they look like getting most of the slakes.

P. Spratt will ride Philein, Counterflight, and Valarth (twice); R. J. Mackie, Valmarch; H. Hibberd,. Gusterina; P. Powell, Pink Robe (Clare Memorial); and W. McEwan, Janet Gaynor. L, J. Ellis and C. T. Wilson are expected to attend the fixture. Lord Nuffield is leaving for Trentham on Friday. No rider has been engaged for him as yet. Ortyx is still with F. Shaw at Wingatui, but it is unlikely that she will be at Trentham.
