PETONE CLUB

The Petone Rifle Club fired another competition at Trentham on Saturday, the results counting for the second .series Bui-ridge and Longlieid handicap aggregates. The range for the day was 300 yards.

The conditions were not easy. The varying light, combined with a rear wind swinging from right to left in sudden changes, kept the competitors on the alert. The best totals for the day were made by J. Carter and W. H. Nickless with 95 each, followed by W. C. Hogg and H. Pelling with 94. The best single-range scores were made by Carter, Nickless, Pelling, Guiney, and Cameron. 48 each. There were nine other scores of 47. There were 18 scores which equalled or bettered the club's standard of 46 for this range.

With one shoot to go to complete the second series, the following are in the .leading positions:—A grade: J. C. Carter, 282; W. H. Ballinger. 280: W. H. Nickless and D. E. Cameron, 276. B and C grades: S. Nicholl, 278; W C. Hogg and K. MacDowall. 277; R. W. McGrath and H. Pelling. 276: J. G. Badland, 275. Next Saturday will complete the second series and will also be the first shoot of the club's championship series. The range will be 500 yards. The scores were:— 300 300 ' yds. yds. Hep. Tl. J. C.
