FRENCH COLONIES
CESSION OPPOSED BY DEPUTIES
PARIS, December. 16. Strong opposition to the cession of colonies to Germany was expressed by Right and Left members in a debate in the Chamber of Deputies.
The Minister of Colonies, M. Moutet, declared that France would not have the matter forced on her until she was ready to consider it. :
. A Right deputy, M. Taittenger, questioned whether France was doing enough to protect her colonies. M. Moutet' replied that everything possible was being done and would continue to be done.
writer Romain Rolland; and the American philosopher Professor John Dewey. have issued a joint statement reading: •
"In view of the wanton destruction of Oriental civilisation, and' for the sake of humanity, peace, and democracy, we propose that the peoples of. all countries should organise a voluntary boycott of Japanese goods, refuse to sell or load war materials for Japan, and cease co-operating with Japan in ways helping her aggressive policy, while giving every possible help to China for relief and self-defence, until Japan has evacuated all her forces from China and abandoned her policy of conquest."
