TAXATION ANOMALIES
MEASURE PROMISED
BILL WHEN HOUSE RESUMES
An indication that taxation legislation would be one of the major measures with which Parliament would be required to deal when the session was resumed early next year was given last evening by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage). , "A measure to provide for the removal of many of the existing anomalies in the incidence of taxation was promised earlier this year and we have not overlooked it," said Mr. Savage. "At the moment we cannot attempt a wholesale revision of the taxation system of the country, but of course that will have to be 'faced up to. This legislation, along with that dealing with national health insurance, national superannuation, and education will constitute the major business of the second part of the session. National health insurance and superannuation may possibly require two Eills.
"Cabinet will be concentrating on these measures when its meetings are resumed immediately after the New Year. We must see that the law draughtsman has reasonable ttoe to prepare the necessary Bills; fcajKcularly that dealing with national Superannuation."
