• Ths' annual, champion of champions golf tournament, which is open to club championsl and' ex-champions -of the affiliated clubs of the Wellington and Hawke's Bay provincial districts, was played at the Hokowhitu course during the weekend, and it resulted in another triumph for the open champion, J. He finished with an aggregate of 139 for the 36 holes and he was eight strokes ahead of the runner-up, H. G. Davies, of Napier. The weather was gloriously fine and. the course perfect in every respect. There was a very good entry and among the competitors were five golfers who have held the New Zealand amateur title. -They were J. P. Hornabrook, A. D. S. ■ Duncan, B. M. Silk, J. Goss, and H. A.. Black. At the end of the first round Hornabrook, with a 71, led by one stroke from his clubmate K. S. Gledinning. Davies and J. L. Black were 73, B. M. Silk, whose game was improving, was 75, and Duncan and Goss were 76's. There was every chance that there would be an exciting finish. The afternoon rounds had not been long in progress before reports began to come in that Hornabrook-had turned on the fireworks. He reached the turn in 2 under 4's and although he gave the spectators two. real thrills on-the inward half, he came out of the trouble each ;time to brilliantly secure a birdie. ■ ' -• .„ "You can't play against that golf, was the opinion freely expressed, and Hornabrook continued to get par figures with/monotonous regularity. Only twice during the day was he over the scratch score, and against that he ttaa mit\vas a beautiful. day and there was some fine, golf. The tournament was ably run "by Mr. K. G. Chamberlain and the official starter was Mr. J. R. Galloway. . Detailed results are as under.— J> 1"011 (Ma"' 71 68-139 H G. Davies (Napier) .. 73 74-147 K. S.
