A WARM MONTH
NOVEMBER WEATHER
VERY DRY FIRST HALF
November on the whole was a warm month in Wellington. The first half was very dry and consequently during this period gardens and lawns suffered considerably. Between the 16th and 25th, however, beneficial rains occurred, and vegetation then made rapid growth. There were very few really cold spells and those that did occur were of brief duration, the worst being on the 25th.
For the greater part of the month north-westerly or northerly winds prevailed. The approximate mean temperature for the month was 57.2 deg., which is I.3deg above the normal. The mean maximum temperature was 64.4deg, compared with the average of 62.3deg, and the mean minimum was 50.0deg,:;the average being 49.5 deg.,: The highest maximum.temperature .'was 75.0deg on the 15th and the lowest minimum 4i.odeg on the 11th. The mean grass minimum temperature was 43.6deg, which is o.Bdeg below tha average for November. The lowest grass minimum was 31.2deg, which occurred on the 11th. The rainfall totalled 2.90 in. which is very close to the ■ 'normal for November, namely, 2.99 in. Only 0.13 in fell "in the first half of the month. On the 16th, however, 1.31 in occurred, which was the highest 24 hours' fall. There were nine days on which rain fell, the average being 13 for November. THE SUNSHINE.;. The total sunshine amounted to 235.5 hours, the average being 7.9 hours per day. The normal amount of sunshine for November is 208.0 hours. There was no day on which the sun did not make some appearance. The average daily run of wind was 235 miles, compared with the normal 262 miles. The windiest 24 hours were those ending at 9 a.m. on the Bth, when the run of wind ' totalled 518 miles. There was a run of 515 miles for the 24 hours preceding 9 a.m. on the 19th. Barometric pressure at 9 a.m. averaged 29.948 in, against the normal 29.872 in. The highest reading .was 30.66 in on the 28th and the lowest 29.235 in on the 17th. North-westerly gales were experienced on the Bth and 9th, and there was a boisterous north-westerly wind on the 19th. Hail fell ■on the 19th.
