"IRIS" PARTY IN CHRISTCHURCH
Over a hundred and fifty guests attended a party held on Tuesdsf/ afternoon in one of the most beautiful gardens in Christchurch, says the "StarSun." Mrs. Charles Thomas, who with her husband and two daughters, will leave next Friday on a two months' holiday to Singapore, entertained many of her friends. They. had. the dual opportunity of saying good-bye .and, of viewing her garden at its best. The glory of this garden is its irises, now in full jfloom on the banks "of the little stream which flows through its grounds. Mr, Thomas's iris collection is famous, and has had many rare specimens, from the States and England, added to it in recent years. Rhododendrons in flower made a lovely backing for the irises yesterday. . , , . Some of Mrs. Thomas's guests played tennis,' and all gathered for tea indoors, in reception rooms gay Ayith bowls of mixed flowers. Mrs. Thomas wore block, her frock of wool georgette having vestee #nd wide revers of white pique. Her hat was a wide • black straw model.
Very original jewellery is being fashioned from the lovely hand-marte filigree metal discs once used inside watches. Each piece is at least 100 years old, and brooches, clips, and rings of this unusual material can be bought quite cheaply.
