NELSON NEWS

REPERTORY SOCIETY'S

SUCCESS

(From "The Post's" Representative.)

NELSON, November 18.

A' signal success was attained on Monday and Tuesday nights when the Nelson Repertory Club staged Ivor Novello's light comedy "Full House." This is the club's third production, and' it was a very fine effort. The stage setting was quite the best ever done by any amateur company in Nelson. Mr. A. R. Kingsford was the producer, and the result of his work and . the co-operation of the members of the cast was evident. Mrs. Moynihan took the part of the delightfully vague and lovable "Frynne Rodney," and her excellent interpretation kept the large audience in a simmer of laughter whenever she was on the stage. The part of "Lola Leadenhall" was taken by Mrs. A. Campbell, who made her first appearance in amateur theatricals in Nelson. Mrs. Campbell carried off difficult situations with ability and her voice carried well. Miss Mary Macfarlane was convincing as "Lady April Hannington," and the part of the maid was well done by Miss Jean Washbourn. The male parts were taken by Messrs. F. W. Twiss, P. R. Parker, J. H. Henderson, C. Dv Flou, G. W. Wade, N. S. Tankersley, F. Foster, and C. Cannington. At the conclusion of the second performance Mr. H. S. Leggatt, president, made a happy speech, and Mr. Kingsford, in replying, referred to the excellent work done by all members of the ?=>st.

It was evident by the large audience present on the first night that Nelsonians welcome "flesh and blood" entertainments of which there all too few, and the still larger "house" the second night was, in a measure, a tribute -to the excellence of the performance the; previous evening.. There were many large parties on both evenings. A Charming Garden. Miss Laura Turton, who will leave for a trip to England in January, has been hostess on several occasions recently, when her delightful garden has been the envy of many flower lovers. Some of the guests have been Mes^ dames H. S. Robison, H. C. Cock, D. Miller, A. Campbell, Osmond, Izard, Hume, Campbell Smith, P. B. Adams, Stedman, K. Sclanders, Leggatt, and the Misses Lucas, Moore, Evans, and Owen. Boys' College Sports. The annual sports were held on Saturday at the college grounds, and the day was calm and brilliantly sunny. The "bank," crowded with visitors, presented a gay sight, and all events went off with the customary promptitude. Many parents came over for the weekend, and there were many jolly reunions. Personals. Major and Mrs. J. M. Lorimer, The Hayes, Stoke, have returned to Nelson from England. Major, and Mrs, P. O'Neill left on Monday for the North Island. ' Professor and Mrs. Murphy, Wellington, were in Nelson for the College sports. ■*

Mrs. Esmond Atkinson, Wellington, was in Nelson for the weekend.

Mrs. E. M. Sladden, who has been staying at Wainui House, has returned to .Wellington.
