HORSES IN LIKELY FORM

(Special from "Early Bird.")

AUCKLAND, This Day.

Big fields are going to make it difficult for backers at le Rapa tomorrow and on Monday, the acceptances for the opening day of the Waikato Racing Uiub's Spring fixture indicating the popularity of this club's race gatherings. Up to a few days ago all the provincial race tracks were very hard, out numerous showers have alleviated the position and the going should now be perfect. Win-and-place betting will be in operation. A very fine lot indeed are engaged in the Waikato Cup. The race is a very open one, with Jonathan, Scotland, King Key, Mazir, Shy, Lornacre, Fersen, Valamito, Rona Bay, Royal Minstrel, and Corroboree all possessing chances. Shy, the winner of the Wellington Handicap with 7.5, has gone up only half a stone, so he is very nicely placed to repeat his Trentham success. , Scotland possibly. would have beaten Small Boy and Gerne Abbas had he got a run in the final stages of the Mitchelsbn Cup. .King Rey is on the upgrade again, and he is a good horse, when right.. Valamito is improving too and looks a good place proposition. Rona Bay is going to be one of the well-backed division, and Jonathan has those two victories to his credit at Avondale last month. .... BRILLIANT SPRINTERS. There is some good talent engaged in the Cambridge Handicap. One that may be said to stand out is the three-year-old Royal Bachelor, who ran'away with the sprint at Avondale two months agb, this being his first outing this season. ' He should be better now, so the increased weight may be equalised by the improvement he has made. The dangerous opposition may comprise Peter Beckford, Golden Sheila, Tnlliarch, Anion, Galilee. Tray Bit, Bachelor King, and Suleiman, and interest will attach to the first appearance of the last-named in open company. The only other open race on the card tomorrow is the Claudelands Hignweight Handicap, and this may be fought out by Respectful and Paso Robles, both of whom will be racing over their best distance.* The former is showing up in' his track trials, and Paso Robles is now in ■ good fettle. Arvakur is definitely the form horse in the Tamahere Stakes, half a mile, although Vitement has been placed, and Yed Prior was fourth in the Avondale Stakes. There are distinct possibilities about Sir Robin, who may spring a surprise. On looks, Bright Wings will command a good deal of support, and interest will be taken in the first appearance of Gay Blonde's half-brother, Philcourt. A division may be avoided in the Trial Stakes, and this event, on Avondale form,' should suit Balinavar and Dv Maurier. Simint can go a merry mile and a half over the sticks and his speed.will assist him to keep awayj from the 23 others .in the - Waimai] Hurdles.. Trentham running strongly suggests Rollicker for the' Hautapu Handicap,, in which-some smart hacks are ,engaged. PROSPECTS AND CARD. Form horses are:— Trial Stakes.—Balinavar, Dv Maurier, Cometarium.
