ARRESTED AT NIGHT

THREE MEN CHARGED

JEMMY AND EXPLOSIVES

Arrested at Paraparaumu last night by detectives, three men appeared in the Magistrate's Court this morning before Mr. W. .F. Stilwell, S.M., charged jointly with being found in possession by night, without lawful excuse, of housebreaking instruments.

The accused, who: were remanded until next Wednesday, were William Mcßeynolds, Wellington, a ship's fireman, aged 29, William Henry Roberts, Wellington, a cleaner, aged 54, and Stuart Aldred, Wellington, a taxidriver, aged 32.-

"The three accused were arrested at 2.30 o'clock this morning by DetectiveSergeant Tricklebank and other detectives," said Detective-Sergeant P. Doyle. "They were in, possession of housebreaking implements, including a jemmy and explosives. I ■Would ask for a remand to afppear here next Wednesday." . . ■ • . ■

Mr. C: Evans-Scott, who appeared for Aldred, asked for bail.

Detective-Sergeant Doyle said that he had-no objection to allowing bail in the case of Roberts and Aldred.

"I have a very strong objection in regard to Mcßeynolds," he said. "He is a man very well known to the police, and has a long list of convictions. He is a bad character, does no work, and is living on the proceeds of thefts."

In. the case of Roberts and Aldred bail was allowed in each case in the sum of £100, with a surety for that amount, the accused being required to report daily to the police.
