FIRST OUTING
NATIONAL PARK TRAMP
A large party belonging to the Ton^F.riro Tramping Club thoroughly enjoyed the first outing of the season, when the Tama Lakes track—the finest lowland walk in the National Park— occupied a full-day, states "The Post's" representative. The Lower Taranaki Falls track took them to the beautiful falls, 83ft in height, and to the smaller Tama Lake. A stiff climb brought them to the Upper Tama Lake, both of which are deep-set cups, the long extinct vents of v.olcanos. The water was a marvellous blue, but too glacial for enjoyable Swimming. The hardier spirits then continued their tramp, skirting the numerous little bays and climbing into the Great Rift and on to Ngauruhoe. Snow and lava jumble made the walk very tiring, and after working over a severe ridge they picked up the Chateau-Tama Track and returned to the Chateau at dusk.
