Special forecast for Wellington:— Moderate to strong north-westerly winds, reaching gale force at times. Weather cloudy to.overcast,*and occasional light rain probable. Temperatures becoming cooler. The general' forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for '.the. ensuing twenty-four hours, is for moderate to strong northwesterly winds, backing later to the west or in places to the south-west. In districts with a westerly aspect and in the southern, portion of the South Island the weather will be cloudy to overcast with rain at times. Elsewhere it will be fair at first, but scattered rain will develop. Temperatures will become cooler. , The westerly type of weather now prevails, a series of depressions extending across the southern Tasman Sea and New Zealand. Winds between north and west have consequently ruled. These *have been generally light to moderate in force, but since last night they have freshened somewhat in the Cook' Strait area. The weather has been fair to fine in eastern districts and warm generally, but cloudy conditions with scattered light rains have been experienced in districts with a westerly aspect and in the far north and south. A few isolated thunderstorms have also occurred. Auckland's weather yesterday was fair to cloudy and warm, with a light north-easterly wind. This morning a light south-westerly was blowing, and conditions were overcast with intermittent rain. . Wellington had another warm and sunny day,'with a north-wastc'rly breeze. ' Hours of bright stnnhlne totalled 12.6, and the maxkv.um temperature was 75 degrees, with 56.6 degrees as the minimum. This is the highest maximum temperature since February, 1936, when the reading was 79.1 degrees. Christchurch had a fine day, an east-north-easterly breeze changing to a light southerly at 9 p.m. Foggy conditions developed thereafter, and the weather this morning was calm and overcast. Dunedin had a dull day with frequent showers during the afte.rnoon, the wind changing from north to southwest. There was a thunderstorm about 6 p.m., and further rain fell during the night, the total fall being 19 points. At 9 a.m. today it was overcast and foggy, with" a light wind from tlie north.
