RESERVES SOCIAL CLUB

The annual smoke concert of the Reserves Social Club was held in' the Basin Reserve pavilion- on Saturday night. Members of the reserves department who had retired on superannuation were the guests of the club. Mr. Gilbert Clarke, president of the club, welcomed the members and friends and later in the evening, paid a tribute to the valuable work done at this and other functions by Mr. M. Glen and his stewards. ■ Mr. J. G. MacKenzie, patron of the club, congratulated the members on the progress made. It was decided to hold .a picnic for the children and outing for the adults at Paekakariki on Anniversary Day. • The final event of the year will be a ladies' evening in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall. During the evening items were given by the following:—Messrs. J. Colston, I A, Honeyman, J, Russell, A, Blackie, CiarJ*2, >F. Yeatts, and McMair (songs), J. G. MacKenzie, J. MacCallum, D. j Lapsley (recitations), and D. Hurdle (tap dance). The pianist was Mr. Scott. The following toasts were honoured: "The King";. "The .City.; Council,". proposed by the chairman; "The Artists," proposed by the vice-chairman (Mr. A. Kettles) and. replied to by Mr. A. Blackie.
