AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY

"(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 15. "Unless a.further Government grant is made there is danger of the building deteriorating and the efficiency of the college being seriously impaired," said Mr. H. J. D. Mahon, president of the Auckland University College, following a meeting of the college council. Th^ meeting authorised Mr. Mahon and the vice-president, Mr. A. H. Johnstone, to wait on the Minister of Education with a request for a grant ff £4658 for immediate requirements and for ah additional annual sum of £905. "These are necessary works and cannot be provided out of the resources of the council." Mr. Mahon continued. "Reports we have received show how straitened the finances of the college are; It is impossible to provide even for certain well-deserved, increases in salaries." - -
