MELBOURNE RACECOURSES
.T_ , « A request for information about certain racecourses' in Victoria indicates that many racegoers in the Dominion are unaware oi the fact that the big courses are all within the metropolitan area of Melbourne itself. Remington is out to the west, only about four miles from the heart of Melbourne. Less than a mile north of Flemington is the Ascot course, and a mile' further north is the Moonee Valley course. The Williamstown course, also suburban, is about eight miles south-west of the city, in the suburb of Williamstown, and the Caul-, field course is about eight miles southeast of the city.' The Mentone course is eight to ten miles beyond the Caulfleld. Except for Mentone, therefore, none of the big Melbourne courses are further from the heart of the city than Hutt Park is from Wellington.
