NEW VESSELS

KAKAPO'S TRIALS

Commander V. G. Webb, marine superintendent of the Union Steam Ship Company, will be on board the Kakapo. the new 2500-ton vessel, when it undergoes its trials next week, -n-rote "The Post's" London correspondent on October 1?. It is expected that the Kakapo will sail for New Zealand Via Panama and San Francisco on October 23. ' . ■

Launching dates of the company's new vessels—Korowai (2500 tons), Komata (3800 tons), and Kurow (3800 tons) —are not yet fixed. It is expected, however, that the Korowai will be completed in May, 1938, the Komata in September, 1938, and the Kurow in January, 1938.

The Kahiaka (1500 tons) is to be launched at Leith on December IS. and it will be completed by the middle of January. The launching dale of the Karalane (2250 tons) is not yet fixed, but it is expected to be ready by next September. The new 5000----ton vessel ordered last week will be completed by the end of November, 1938.

No decision has been made yet regarding the two new vessels for the Canadian-Australian service, but an announcement is expected shortly.
