A RECORD POLL
FEDERAL ELECTIONS
96 PER CENT. OF VOTERS
FURTHER RESULTS
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received November 5, 10.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. According to the Chief Commonwealth Electoral Officer, the polling at the Federal elections was the highest on record. Present figures indicate that 96 per cent.- of the 4,084,000 electors voted. The completion of the distribution of preferences in Tasmania has resulted in the return of two remaining Labour candidates, Messrs. R. Dafcy and C. Lamp. Two of the three Labour candidates, Messrs. J. Barnes and D. Cameron, have been elected to fill Victorian vacancies in the Senate. It is expected that the third Labour candidate, Mr. R. Keane, will be elected after the further allocation of preferences today. Interest in the election returns is now focused on the counting of preferences for the Senate, which has begun in the smaller States. The Government is hopeful of winning three Senate seats each in South Australia and Queensland. Should the Government win in those two States the party strength in the Senate would be Government 23, Labour 13.
