DE SOTO TUNED UP

De Sotb, the probable favourite for the New Zealand Trotting Cup, is now quartered at New Brighton, where he has the advantage of working on clay or grass, as his trainer may prefer. His race in the "Cup Trial at Wellington on Saturday did him no harm. His owner says he is in first-class order* De Soto was given half-pace work over three miles on Tuesday and pulled up perfectly sound. He has had three races in the past few weeks, and while he may need a sharpening work-out, no serious tests of speed over a distance will be attempted.
