The Whangarei Racing Club's Spring Meeting opened today in brilliantly fine weather. There was a large attendance and the track was very fast. Results:— Hikurangi Hack Handicap, £100; 1 mile.—s-5 Raepata, car. 7.4J, 1; 1-1 Droll, 8.1, 2; 4-4 Hopalong, 7.4, 3. All started. Five lengths; short head. Time, lmin 41sec. Spring Plate, £80; 6 furlongs.—s-4 Raceline, 8.0, 1; 8-8 Viracious, 8.0, 2; 9-9 Flashing Spear, 8.0, 3. Scr.: Windcrest, Jolly Broney, Palardo. Half a length; nose. Time, lmin 16 3-ssec. • Huanui Hack Hurdles, £140;, 1J miles and 197 yards.—2-2 Simint, 10.0, 1; 1-1 Kilberis, 9.8, 2; 3-5 Backblock, 9.0, 3. Also started: Gay Cavalier, Siwell. Eight lengths; five lengths. Time, 2min 58 2-ssec.
