PHYSICAL WELFARE
COMMITTEE'S REPORT
The committee of the combined sports bodies appointed to co-operate with the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) in the legislation recently introduced, met the Minister and the Under-Secretary, Mr. J W r . Heenan, and after going through the Bill clause by clause came to a unanimous agreement. The committee approved the Bill and recommends its support by all national organisations. The committee considers that the adopted name/Council of Physical Welfare and Recreation," is preferable to the original title, "Council of Sport," since it removes all ambiguities and misunderstandings and clearly indicates its main purpose, namely, the promotion of the physical health and'well-being of the community. \ '■ The committee is satisfied that there is no suggestion of: compulsion as to which sports individuals may take up, and that there will be no interference whatever with "regard to the administration of our national sports. Further, the committee believes that the main purpose is identical with the ideas promulgated by recent English legislation, so that all' individuals and sports organisations can safely give the Bill full support and co-operate wholeheartedly with the authorities in carrying out the proposals.
