VISIT TO HUNGARY
CAUSE OF FALSE RUMOUR
EUROPEAN SPECULATIONS
(British Official Wireless.)
(Received November 5, 2 p.m.)
RUGBY. November 4.
Reports which have been given much prominence in the Press of more than one European country of an impending visit to Hungary by! Sir Robert Vansittart are without foundation. Various theories as to the political moves and developments of special significance, which have been based on these reports, are also devoid of truth. No such visit is contemplated.
A possible explanation of the, rumours is that Captain Guy Vansittart is shortly going to Hungary, which he has -yisited-tpn .numerous .occasions in the past, for shooting. He haslnever had any part in politics or connection with diplomacy. It is apparently on this flimsy foundation that an elaborate structure of false deductions has been built up, and in London it is felt that there is an obvious moral. The already difficult situation whica confronts statesmen in Europe will not be improved and at any moment might be made dangerously worse by the publication of sensational speculations based on unverified rumour.
