ROSE DAY

A BRISK DEMAND

Today, the Friday preceding Armistice Day, is Hose Day, and the customary roses are: being sold. in.the streets. Indications are that this year's sale will eclipse that of last year's. A total of 28000' roses'was sent "out to various parts of the city and suburbs by the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association this morning, and as the demand cannot be met badges are to be sold this afternoon: Last year 20,000 roses were sold in Wellington. . . Half the proceeds will'go to the Wellington Returned Soldiers1 Association, and the other half will be distributed among the South African War Veterans' Association, the Women's National Reserve (which ,tends' the soldiers' graves at Karori), ; and .the St. John Ambulance and Red Cross societies.
