CHINESE MURDERED

TONG WAR FEARED IN

CHICAGO

(Received November 3, 9 am.) CHICAGO, November 2.

Chin Jack Lem, aged 61, one of the most powerful and feared and also one of ■ the wealthiest Chinese in Chicago, was shot dead in the heart in Chinatown.

His assassin is believed to be Chinese. A Tong war is feared.

His sons believe the shooting is a reprisal for Lem's refusal to contribute to the fund for the Chinese war. It is believed that Lem, who was imprisoned in 1924 on a charge of extortion, had many enemies.
