ENGINEERS LOSE HEAVILY
LONDON, November 2.
The Shanghai correspondent of the "Daily Te%2graph," describing Japanese crossings of Soochow Creek at several points, says that these were effected ui^der cover of an intensive artillery aqd aircraft, barrage, followed by a smiike screen. Engineers lost 90 per cen^i. of their, numbers while throwing bridges and' pontoons across the creek 4or the infhntry, who were largely mo*i;ed down by machine-gun fire. .' -■ ;
