GARDEN PARTY

To aid the Plunket funds at Wanganui East, Mrs. James McGregor lent her pretty garden for a party. There was a large stall which did excellent business, and also many garden competitions. During the afternoon Mr. Russell Scoular, who has just returned from Australia, contributed several songs.

Card, Party.

To present the Waverley Golf Club winners with the annual trophies, an enjoyable card party was held in the supper room of the Waverley Town Hall recently, when Miss Davis and Mr. J. J., Johnson won the card prizes. The president, Mr. E. C. Dallison, thanked the Bremer Bros, foe the use of their property, which 'enabled Waverley to have its golf links. Three cheers were given for the generous property owners. Mrs. Bremner, sen., presented the golf prizes. The senior championships were won by Mrs. I. Parsons and Mr. I. Parsons, the junior by Mrs. K. Gibbons and Mr. J! P. Stewart. Among the awards were the Cane Cup, K. Gibbons; and O'Reilly Cup, C. Mendicott.

Wedding.

A wedding of wide country interest was solemnised at Christ Church, Wanganui, yesterday . afternoon, when Margaret, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Campbell, of Mangaweka, was married to lan, only son of Mr. D. M. Mcintosh, of Hastings.

The bride wore a beautifully-cut gown of heavy magnolia satin, with a simply-draped bodice and long sleeves. The tulle veil formed a train, flowing over the long trained skirt, airt was held by a bandeau of gardenias. Her shower bouquet was of cream roses and lily of the valley and fern, and long cream streamers. There were three bridesmaids, Misses Joan Graham (Wanganui), Betty McLaren (Wellington), and Mary Grumitt (Marton), all frocked alike in apple-green taffeta, the bodices and sleeves edged with fine net. Their bandeaux were of shaded , amethyst flowers, and shower bouquets were carried of amethyst stocks, sweet peas, anemones, and ferns, tied with amethyst ribbon. Messrs. R. Humphries (Pongaroa), F. Mewyies (Hastings), and W. 'Fuller-ton-Smith (Marton) supported the bridegroom. The ceremony was conducted by Archdeacon J. B. Young, with Mr. Slater at the organ, and the church was decorated in tones to match the bridal party. After the service a four o'clock party was held at Foster's Hotel, where Mrs. Campbell received her guests wearing a smart navy and white ensemble and blue hat. Her bouquet was of lily of the valley. Mrs. Mcintosh (stepmother of the bridegroom) wore a green suit and small brown toque and carried apricot and orange roses. Among the many guests was the bride's grand-

mother, Mrs. J. P. Aldridge, of Taihape, and Miss Mcintosh, of Masterton, aunt of the bridegroom. When Mr. and Mrs. Mcintosh left the latter travelled in a smart green angora costume, with small hat to match. Their future home will be at Te Puke. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. D. G. O'Toole are visiting Timaru for the Chamber of Commerce conference and will go on afterwards to InvercargilL Mr. and Mrs. F. Bethwaite are also visiting Timaru for the Chamber of Commerce conference. Mr. and Mrs. John Lawson were Masterton visitors this week to attend! the Mcintosh-Campbell wedding. j Miss Nancy Flagg, on holiday from Raetihi, is at present in Scotland, and from there she leaves for France. Mesdames H. D. Robertson,, J. McGregor, H. C. Jenkins, and Widdowson are visiting Wellington for the Plunket conference. Mr. and Mrs. B. P. Perry, of Masterton, visited Wanganui yesterday for the Mcintosh-Campbell wedding. Mrs. Russell Scoular, the Wanganui coloratura soprano, has been engaged as soloist by the Hawera Orchestral Society for its concert next Tuesday night. The following evening Mr.' Scoular will be the soloist for the Wanganui Choral Society. , ;

Mrs. E. Gower, Mr. and Mrs. Gf. Gower, and Miss Gower called in at Wanganui yesterday on their way, to Taumarunui. * -
