MIDSUMMER TEMPERATURE
(By Telegraph—Pre:'" Association.)
BLENHEIM, This Day.
A gloriously fine weekend extending over, the Anniversary D»y holiday on Monday brought to a close one or the hottest and driest Octobers experienced in Marlborough for many years. In Blenheim only 17 points of rain fell, extended over five days, compared with 1.95 inches on twelve days of October last year. The indications at present are for a serious drought, and already most crops have been detrimentally affected. '
For the past ten months the total [rainfall has been 17.24 inches, compared with 22.87 inches over the corresponding period last year.' Temperatures have been unusually high for the past two months and in October alone 262 hours 54 minutes of sunshine were recorded, compared with 221 hours 36 minutes in October last year. There were only three days in the month on which the sun did not put in an appearance. The hottest day was last Saturday, when a midsummer temperature, 86.2 degrees, was registered in Blenheim.
