AUSTRALIANS' TOUR
Today the Australian Rugby League team on-tour;in England is to play a Batley and'Dewsbury thirteen. On Saturday the .Kangaroos play Oldham, a club which holds an interest for New Zealand. George W. Smith, New Zealand's famous athlete and wing-three-quarters of the 1905-8 period, has for many years been associated with the Oldham Club as trainer.
Many contend that George Smith was the greaest winger New Zealand has produced. He 'toured England With the 1905 Rugby.Union representatives (the original All Blacks) and while at Home became interested in the Rugby League game which at that time was in its infancy and only played in northern England. On his return to New Zealand, George Smith assisted in the organising of A.. M. Baskerville's Rugby League "All Blacks" and he sailed with the team as vice-cap-tain. Like Lance Todd, Smith accepted an engagement with one of the English Hugby League clubs and settled perlanently in England.
