HARBOUR BRIDGE

THE AUCKLAND PROJECT In reply to a question by the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates (National, Kaipara) the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) stated in the House of Representatives this afternoon that the Public Works Department had already made a report from the information available upon the possibility of the construction of a bridge across Auckland Harbour. This report indicated that the cost of this bridge as estimated by the Commission in 1930 was substantially correct, but that the design of the bridge would probably have to be amended to comply more closely with modern engineering practice. The report further indicated that a closer investigation into the possible toll revenue was necessary before a true prediction of the economic value of the bridge could be made.
