PRAISE FOR RESCUERS

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 11

The rescue of a naval boat's crew off Karaka Bay, St. fliers, in which a City Council officer, Mr. C. E. Tilby, participated, was commended at the council's meeting tonight by the Mayor (Sir Ernest Davis). . "Before proceeding with the business of the meeting," said the Mayor, "I should like to refer tp the conspicuous bravery shown on September 30 last by a member of the council's staff, Inspector C. E. Tilby, of the .sanitary department and a: resident of Stl Hellers Bay, and Mr. H. H. Partridge, | in connection with the, rescuing ofcthej crew of one, of the boats which reap- 1 sized in the naval race on Auckland ] Harbour. This is a case of giving-i credit where credit is due, and T feel that the council should !l this evening pass appropriate resolutions. Captain Glennie,. of H.M.S.. Achilles, has promised to forward to me a full report -which l shall send on to the authorities with a recommendation, that Messrs. Tilby and Partridge should be considered for an award of the Royal Humane Society." - The:following motions by the Mayor were carried unanimously:—"That the council records its high appreciation of the rescue work carried out by a member of the sanitary department's stall, Inspector Tilby, 011 September 30, 1937, after the capsize of one of the boats competing in the naval races on Auck : land Harbour/ congratulates him on.the result of his endeavours, and expresses its pride in the service to others he performed on that occasion; further, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Inspector Tilby." "That- this meeting of the City Council tenders its congratulatipns to Mr. Partridge on the rescue work carried out by him and records its appreciation of'same."
