AN EARLY TREATY
The first treaty of non-aggresssion was signed 3000 years ago, according to Dr. Joseph Struzavic, famous Viennese historian. The high contracting parties were the Egyptians and the Hittites. Their agreement, consisting of eighteen articles, was engraved on silver tablets. Its main proposition, "A convention of peace and eternal friend-
ship," with its provision of arbitration , in case of any subsequent dispute between the two contracting Powers,
showed that diplomacy has changed but little in 3000 years. The final clause alone' would hardly figure in a modern' treaty. It calls down the wrath of''both Hittite and Egyptian deities on/ whosoever atouM first break-the pact.
