November 9. 11, 12—New Zealand Metrov polltan T.C. stepped out in a nandicap event. On Monday he is to take on,the mile and a quarter handicap at Ellerslie. _ Royal Appellant is engaged ,in the mUe on Monday. The .failure of the Appellant gelding to win at l£_niiies should not be taken to w cannot stay beyond a mile, for he has run some excellent races over the longer journey. He is also engaged in the mile and a quarter handicaps at Avondale a week, hence, and those races ought to "suit him nicely. Several y Auckland horses figure among the 1 entries for the Wellington Meeting, among them being Nordic Song, Lady Ruler, Boughal, Tavern Song! Rollicker, King Rey, . Enge, Galuo, Scotland, Impasto, Maori Song, Tosh. Whirling, Parquet, Raepata, Privy Seal, Dutch GirT, and Te Hero, all of whom are scheduled to fulfil engagements at Ellerslie and Avon-: dale prior to the southern fixture. Apparently Te Hero is all t right , again, for in addition to remaining in the, Wellesley Stakes he is also entered for Avondale. ' GALLIO'S PROGRAMME. Judging by Gallio's nominations tor future events- it is apparent that he is shortly to be tried oyer middle and longer distances, for after Ellerslie it is probable that he will take on the handicaps at Avondale, both these races being run over a mile ana a quarter. The son of General Latour has been entered 'for toe Wellington Handicap and the Harcourt Stakes, the latter contest, which he won impressively twelve months ago, being a weight-for-aee event. If he comes back to his best form Gallio's presence will lend considerable interest to the handicap and weight-for-age racing this season. „ , c. > Although the Onehunga Steeplechase at Ellerslie on Monday is an open event, there are not many of the best class 'chasers engaged, and the scale and weights may not be much lower than in today's contest. Should 'this prove to be the case the chances of horses like Windsor Lad Thespis, All Irish, and Lochiel Lad will not be enhanced. One of the best prospects may be Emancipation, who is not in the first flight, although he made his four opponents at Paeroa last Monday look mere moderates. Then there is Golden England, who struggled home in second place last Saturday He is now right down in the weights and if he is a runner on Monday—he nulled up lame and could not run on the second day—he might be the hardest to beat. However Emancipation looks the sounder horse and therefore toe better proposition among the newcomers, but the best of these may find the improving Lochiel Lad troublesome!
A likely maiden being prepared by R. Brough is a five-year-old mare by Sandstar from a half-sister to Bonogne. a former good performer who was raced by Mr. Harry Vine, whose friends will regret to learn that he is seriously ill in the Hawera Hospital.
