TWO MAORIS FINED "This resulted in a drunken brawl in the area into which the liquor was taken," said Sub-Inspector J. Dempsey, in the Magistrate's Court today, concerning the actions of Honai Hamene, of Turangarere Camp, Taihape; and Miki Whenuaroa, of Moawhango, Taihape, who did not appear to answer a charge against them of taking beer into the Porirua pa. Hamene was fined £5 and Whenuaroa £2 by Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M. Mervyn Edward Kenny, of Porirua, for whom Mr. A. H. Macandrew appeared, pleaded not guilty to the same charge, and the case against him was dismissed at the end of the police evidence
Hamene was also convicted and ordered to pay costs on each of two charges of aiding and abetting the offence of supplying liquor to himself for consumption off licensed premises.
