RESIDENTIAL NURSERY

PRESSURE ON SPACE

Mrs. F. Porter-presided at a meeting of the management committee of the Women's National Reserve residential nursery, Owen Street, there being a large attendance of members. It was reported that many branches had held functions to'swell the funds, and that the pressure of accommodation for children had never been greater, and the matron and committee regretted having to refuse so many applications.

Thanks were passed to the following donors for gifts in kind:—Mesdames Heayes, Barker, Wahren, Peterson, Porter, Brown, Davis, Russell, Huggins, Davis, Mackie, Gledhill, Misses Downward, Freeman, Sheppard, Hall, Betty Booth, and Wells; Mr. Irvine, and Kelburn-Northland branch and Seatoun branch.

The monthly meeting of the executive was held recently, Mrs. A. Gibbons presiding. The matron reported that the month had been a very busy one, the nursery being full, and there was also a waiting "list. It was', stated that the committee deeply regretted having to refuse so many children, but it was quite unavoidable. The hon. .treasurer (Miss Wiltshire) reported the following donations, for which thanks were expressedi^-Shell Co. of New Zealand £ 1 Is, Lower- Hutt branch £5, Khandallah branch £12, Oriental Bay ■. branch £5, Island Bay circle £2 ss, Wadestown branch £3 13s.

The committee passed a very hearty vote of appreciation to the McCarthy trustees for their most acceptable grant.
