CRASH INTO POLE

HUSBAND AND WIFE HURT

PALMERSTON N, Sept. 7.

A modern saloon car left the Ash-liurst-Palmerston North highway this afternoon and crashed into a power pole with such force that the pole was broken in two. The engine of the car was damaged beyond repair. The accident happened on a straight stretch of. road.

The driver was Mr. Charles Gardner, aged. 75,: Southland Road, Hastings, who received; a broken upper jaw and cuts' and abrasions. His wife, aged 58, who was the only other occupant, fractured her left leg. Both were taken'to hospital.
