HOUSING SCHEME
NEW DUNEDIN SUBURB

DUNEDIN, This Day.
A new Dunedin suburb in the making is Clyde Hill, where 36 houses out of 56 brick dwellings are now in course of construction under the City Council's ..housing scheme. Three are already tenanted, and no two houses are to be alike. ' When the City Corporation has expended £2000 placed aside for the purpose of improving roads the new suburb should be as comfortably situated as any that has been settled for years. •
'The day of speculative building is over,; for the time being at any. rate, stated a well-known Dunedin builder ■who kept a staff employed throughout the depression by his initiative in home construction. Costs are now highe£.th^n they have ever been, he saictand jt would be too risky to build at' the 'present ; tiigh^ level on. the chance that the houses and prices ■would appeal to home seekers. Costs had put a strong brake on: the builder who,:iad enterprise.
