AMUSING PROGRAMME

VICTORIA LEAGUE PARTY

The.studio of Mrs. Charles Morice'a home in Hill Street, which has been the scene of. many happy gatherings, was lent by Mrs. Morice for a social meeting last night of the members of the Victoria League. The brightness of the studio's modern window and doorway draperies of cream oilcloth with scarlet pelmets combined with its old-fashioned low ceiling, fireplace, and informal adjoining rooms, create a cheerfully intimate atmosphere, and last night spring flowers were arranged everywhere. The younger members of the Victoria League, with Miss Patricia Gledhill as convener, arranged the programme.

After being received by Lady Buckleton (patroness of the Victoria League) and Mrs. J. A. Doctor (president) the guests sat in chairs arranged across the studio, and were entertained with musical items and play-reading until supper time. Miss Ruth Skerman played the piano. Mrs. Joye Taylor and Miss M. Da vies sang solos, and humorous songs accompanied by tap dancing were also sung by Miss Irene Norris. The play "In These Hard Times," caused great amusement. It was read by Miss Skerman, Miss Gledhill, Mrs. J. A. Doctor, Miss Irene Norris, and Miss Dorothy Martin. Mrs. Bessie McKinlay was the producer. The concluding feature of the programme was a community "sing." Lady Buckleton was wearing a black georgette frock trimmed with ermine tails. With a long black Sahara crepe skirt and a coatee Mrs. Doctor wore a turquoise blue and silver cloque blouse, and Mrs. Morice was dressed in a pink floral georgette frock and a black velvet and brocade coat. Among others present were Mrs. C. Corrigan, Mrs. J. D. Gray, Miss Nancy Whitelaw (Auckland), Miss Jean Buckleton, Mrs. Reginald Skerman, Mrs. W. H. Gledhill, Mrs. A. B.
