Saturday showed that there was little between the teams,' either in,play or good sportsmanship. '. At all stages the game was open and interesting, and the players met'in the friendliest spirits. The Canterbury forwards and halves showed better combination than the Wellington side, and their stick-work was unusually good. On the other hand:, the Wellington backs were too strong for'the. As the game progressed the Wellington forwards began to ■ secure the territorial advantage, and when the Canterbury line attacked, Wellington secured a number of free hits for obstruction when the Canterbury players were attempting to keep play' near the circle. McLean' developed cramp and.could not give much assistance and eventually had to leave the field.
