He had held a licence for 15 years, but had not driven often during the last lew years, owing to advice by his doctor, on account of heart trouble. He suffered frolm a stomach disorder, and had been advised by his doctor to take schnapps. On the day of the accident, he had had two schnapps and three beers. Unfortunately, circumstances forced him to drive the car, which was usually driven by his man. He had had little experience in driving this type of car, and it was the difficulty he experienced in finding the reverse gear after the accident that attracted the attention of the police.
