WELL-BRED TROTTERS

Tonee, who will make his first appearance in the Improvers' Handicap at New Brighton on Saturday, has breeding behind, him, for he is by Wrack from Latoria, who was by Logan Pointer —Gianella, and won the Sapling Stakes in 1921. Judgment, engaged in the same face, is a six-year-1 old gelding by Judge Hancock—Our Lorna. Listowel, another entrant for this race, is ©.wned by Mr. F. J. Monk and is trained at Kaikoura. At the race meeting held last May, Listowel gave a good display of trotting when he easily won the. Stewards' Handicap from 48 yards behind in 3min 41 2-ssec He did not beat anything of class; but, he appeared to be a very solid trotter. He is an aged gelding by WrackForrest La 55:....;,., ■/- . • : ...

Querida, the winner of the opening event at Auckland on Saturday, is bred the way of a good-trotter, for while her sire, Nelson Bingen, is the most successful sire of trotters in recent years, the dam, Betty Moko, was also a high-grade performer and won many good races in the Auckland district. She was by Peter Moko (a son of Peter the Great) from; Papatina. Although Querida has not yet performed in keeping with her breeding, she is •not an old mare, and in the care of F, J. Smith she will probably improve.
