Butter production in Australia during 1936-3? is officially estimated' at 393,000,0001b, a decline of 40,700,0001b compared with the previous year, according to a summary of the dairying industry issued by the Commonwealth Statistician (Dr. Roland Wilson). Australia is the largest producer ol butter in the British Empire, and, excluding the Soviet Union, ranks fourth among producing countries of the world, the summary adds. lii the financial year just closed, the exports of butter from Australia amounted to 174,309,3961b, compared with 212,646,1771b in 1935-36, when the value of the production was estimated at £47,533,000. Victoria was the largest producer last year with 149,667,0001b, with New South Wales second with 104,554,0001b. The cheese exports from Australia during the last financial year aggregated 124,320c\vt, an increase of 8493cwt on the previous year's figures.
