N.Z. CRICKET TEAM
M. P. DONNELLY'S SUCCESS
The good form with the bat shown on the Home tour of the New Zealand cricket team by M. P. Donnelly, the "baby" of the side, has brought great pleasure to all New Zealand cricket enthusiasts, but to none more than to those living in the Taranaki Province, from which the young player hails, or to former residents of Taranaki. E. T. Holmes, captain of the M.C.C. team which visited New Zealand in the 1935-36 season, formed a high opinion of the Taranaki colt and another to do so was M. A. Noble. This was. recalled by Mr. E. L. Mason, president of the Taranaki Cricket Association, who has just returned from a visit to Australia with his wife, who. as. Ethel Friend, is well known as a singer. Shortly before the New Zealand steam's tour started, .Noble, in a letter to Mr. Mason, expressed the opinion that Donnelly was going to develop into a flrst-rate player and he is as delighted as anyone over the success.
