LIBERTY AND FREEDOM
;. . (To the Editor.) : Sir, —New Zealand.is held up as a ! shining example of how a country i should be governed, when any thinking and reading person knows quite well that conditions in other .countries, especially British Dominions, have shown improvements not only equal to but in many cases greater than those being enjoyed by New Zealand people. We are, in common with other countries, enjoying a worldwide prosperity. The big difference in the lot of the New Zealander and that of other Britishers is that the freedom which has been the New Zealander's proud boast seems to be becoming a thing of the past. Compulsion of any kind is contrary. to our democratic ideals, and we would- be well adVised to watch individual ■ members of Parliament from now on with the idea of replacing at the • next election any member who introduces legislation which will tend to curtail any further the liberty and freedom of action to which we, as free-thinking citizens, are entitled.—l am, etc., N.Z.
