MOUNT VICTORIA TUNNEL
(To the Editor.) Sir,—As a Hataitai motorist, I should like to express the disappointment of motorists generally at the delay in the improvement of the lighting of the Mount Victoria traffic tunnel. It is now some months since the council made a trid of additional lighting, and we have been informed that it is necessary to procure the additional equipment from overseas. Surely it is not. necessary for such a lengthy period to elapse in ' obtaining this equipment. There has been an enormous' increase in traffic, and during the daytime it is positively dangerous to drive through the tunnel—dangerous both for motorists arid for cyclists. I have frequently experienced total invisibility when there is bright sunshine at the end one is approaching. At such times I have found it! quite impossible to see a cyclist a few i yards in front, and also to see, with1 any degree of accuracy, the distance; from my car to the left side of ths| tunnel. The only remedy is to slow down to a crawling pace. I suggest1 that the Automobile Association should take'this matter up.—l am, etc., '■', • MOTORIST. - '
