PRIMARY PRODUCERS

EMPIRE CONFERENCE

Primary producers throughout the Empire are already looking forward to the conference between their representatives at Sydney next year. The conference is to be held in connection with the celebrations of the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the Commonwealth, and production and marketing are certain to be two of the main subjects to be discussed.

Producers in Great Britain are just as interested as the producers of the Dominions, and the "N.F.U, Record," the official organ of the National Farmers' Union (Great Britain), states that the president of the N.F.U. (Sir Reginald Dormari-Smith, M.P.), the immediate past-president (Mr. J. H. Wain), and a member of headquarters staff will represent the union at the | conference. I

"The failure of Ottawa served to create strong agricultural opinion in this country in favour of liaison work amongst Empire primary producers," the "Record" states, "and during the lest three or four years a good deal of activity has been proceeding in that direction. If the Sydney conference results in the establishment of permanent liaison machinery the results can hardly fail to be mutually beneficial."

The opinion of _ primary producers in New Zealand appears to be that the conference may lead to a better understanding between the Dominions supplying the Home market, and that marketing within . the Empire may be made more ordered in the future.
