STAB IN THE CHEST

POLICE INVESTIGATING

WANGANUI. This Day.

Mr. A. E. Davey, a well-known: upriver settler, was found, on his farm near Jerusalem this morning suffering from a wound, in the chest, all the circumstances suggesting that he had been .slabbed.

The injured man. lives inland from Jerusalem and at this time of the year the homestead is not accessible by motor vehicle Dr. W. J. Feltham, of Raetihi, who was called to attend Mr. Davey, motored.to below Pipiriki and completed the last part of the journey on, horseback. ~ He found the patient suffering from a severe wound in the chest' and in such a condition that it was..dangerous to move him over the rough track to the main road.

Detective-Sergeant Robertson and Detective Murray, Wanganui, motored to Jerusalem and rode the final lap on horses. They took possession of a knife and interrogated those who knew of the happening, including Mr. Davey's housekeeper. ■ • .

Mr. Davey's condition late tonight was satisfactory.
