THISTLE'S SUCCESS

The 'Thistle team's victory in the game against Ponsonby at Blandford Park last Saturday practically assures the former of the senior championship for the 1937 season, says the "Herald." Thistle is* in the commanding position of having a four-point leacj with only two move series of matches to be played. Even if Thistle were to suffer defeats in the next two fixtures, which is rather unlikely judging by the team's present form, Ponsonby, the only other team with any prospect, would have to secure victories in the last two series in order to play off for the honours.

For consistently good displays there has been no team to approach Thistle This season. In all-round teamwork and general attacking and defensive methods, the Thistle side has proved itself a first-class combination, and the constructive and positional play of | opposing teams has suffered in comparison. Probably the outstanding player in the team has been F. Angus, whose ability to combine with the remaining members of his team, and also to reveal individual brilliance when required, has brought victory to his club on several occasions. He lias proved himself the best scoring forward in Auckland this season and easily the most aggressive, which makes it all the harder to understand why he was overlooked in the selection of the New Zealand teams for the recent Test series against England.
