A SHUNTING MISHAP

TRAIN SLIGHTLY DELAYED

The train for Johnsonville was delayed slightly on Thursday by a mishap: at 5.20 when running empty carriages into position, at No. 3 platform at Wellington station. Many small boys have admired the massive buffers which have been placed to stop trains entering the platforms, and wondered what would happen if a heavy engine did not stop in time. The buffers are reinforced with railway iron, and have a long toe in'the right place to buttress up .their formidable efficiency. In the case of the Johnsonville train it was not the engine, but the guard's, van which struck the buffer. One of the carriages was partly derailed, minor damage being done. The delay in the dispatch of the train to schedule was very slight. ' • ■ .
